Rob Nelson, General Manager, Conventions & Business Events

Rob joined Birsbane Marketing in January 2015 building on an extensive career spanning 22 years in leadership roles predominantly in major events and sports business.  Rob leads the convention bureau team tasked with the responsibility to market Brisbane as a business events destination of choice, securing more business events and attracting delegates for the ultimate goal of generating economic prosperity for Brisbane.  Rob is a member of Brisbane Marketing’s executive team and oversees staff across research, business development, bidding and convention services.

Rebecca Wash, Conventions and Business Events Coordinator

Rebecca re-joined Brisbane Marketing in November 2015 as Senior Coordinator, Conventions & Business Events. Rebecca’s previous experience at Brisbane Marketing and other industry-related employment enables her to work across the Convention Bureau supporting Rob Nelson and the Convention Services team. After spending two years in Melbourne, Rebecca’s favourite thing about Brisbane is the climate.

Business Development and Bidding

Juliet Alabaster, Senior Manager, Business Development and Bidding

In her capacity as Senior Manager, Juliet Alabaster is responsible for the delivery of a broad range of projects including site inspections, familiarisations, events, membership and conference promotion within the Convention Bureau. Juliet has a strong tourism background having grown up in the industry, and her professional experience includes working for a Professional Conference Organiser and a business event venue.

Holly Simpson, Senior Bidding Executive

Holly joined the Bureau in 2012 as the Bidding Executive and specialises in managing the bid process to secure national and international conferences to Brisbane. She works with clients, industry and members to prepare bid documentation and presentations, lobby decision makers and host city site inspections. Holly's experience working in the tourism development industry for the past 10 years provides a strong knowledge of the city's products and offerings for clients.

Kylie McKenzie, Business Development Manager

Kylie joined the Bureau in 2008 as the Research Executive.  She has extensive experience in hotels, catering and event management both in Australia and overseas. Teaming her experience and passion for Brisbane Kylie is now focussed on Business Development for the Convention Bureau.  She is uniquely placed to assist clients in finding the most suitable options in Brisbane to facilitate successful Business Events.

Gary Pearce, Business Development Manager

Gary joined the Bureau in September 2015 as Business Development Manager. Gary is tasked with ensuring Brisbane is front of mind when considering locations for any future conferences and events. He joins the team with extensive hotel sales background over the past 15 years, working in both Australian and international hotels and resorts.

Jill Wimberley, Senior Coordinator, Business Development and Bidding

Jill commenced in the Convention Bureau in 2012 as Membership Coordinator, before transitioning in the Business Development and Bidding team in September 2015. Jill’s extensive knowledge of Brisbane business event product positions her to assist clients in choosing Brisbane as their conference destination of choice, through finding venues, accommodation and services most suited to their requirements.


Vibhor Pandey, Manager, Research and Lead Generation

Vibhor joined the Bureau in 2014 as the Manager, Market Research and Lead Generation. Vibhor has more than eight years of international experience in helping various cross-functional industries, with a strong focus on the travel and tourism sector in the Indian sub-continent, South Asia, Middle East and North African region. He is responsible for Market research, customer insights optimisation, sales lead generation, market segmentation, and to help achieve overall Bureau objectives.

Convention Services

Lorelle Chittick, Convention Services Manager

Lorelle joined in Bureau in 2005 as Manager Familiarisations and Events and in 2015 commenced in the role of Convention Services Manager.  Lorelle leads the Membership and Familarisation and Events team and is responsible for the delivery of a broad range of projects including site inspections, familiarisations, trade events and membership. Lorelle has a strong conventions, tourism and events background having worked across a diverse range of companies in the UK, Canada and Australia.

Patricia Cuppaidge, Membership Manager

The longest-serving member of the team, Patricia Cuppaidge is responsible for Membership for the Bureau. Her focus is on retaining current, and attracting new members, as well as selling the Bureau’s cooperative marketing campaigns. Patricia’s numerous years of experience in the retail industry and 15 years in various roles at Brisbane Marketing have enabled her to establish and maintain relationships with members to maximise their membership benefits.

Michelle Ianna, Familiarisations and Events Manager

Michelle re-joined the Bureau in 2015 as Manager, Familiarisations and Events. Michelle is responsible for the organisation and execution of site inspections, familiarisations and a variety of unique events within the Convention Bureau. Michelle has over 15 years of industry experience, which includes working for a well-known five star hotel, a national Professional Conference Organiser and various roles within the Bureau.

Ashton Barry, Membership, Famils and Events Coordinator

Ashton is responsible for the providing support to Members as well as assisting with the organisation of site inspections, familiarisations and a variety of unique events within the Bureau. Ashton started with the Bureau while completing a Bachelor of Business Management/International Hotel and Tourism Management at the University of Queensland, and began as Coordinator in October 2015.

Convention Promotion

Kylie Fox, Manager, Convention Promotion

Kylie joined the Bureau in 2012 as Convention Promotion Manager. Working with confirmed national and international conference clients, she advises on delegate attraction marketing strategies, destination promotion and uptake of the Convention Support Toolkit offerings to ensure a successful conference experience in  Brisbane for both the organiser and delegate. Kylie has extensive marketing experience having worked for major corporate brands in the ICT, events and gaming industry.
