Juliet Alabaster, General Manager

In her capacity as General Manager, Juliet Alabaster leads a team of dedicated business event professionals who work to attract meetings, conferences, exhibitions and incentives to Brisbane and maximise attendance at these events. Juliet has a strong tourism background having grown up in the industry, and her professional experience includes working for a Professional Conference Organiser and a business event venue. Joining the Business Events team in 2008, Juliet has a vast working knowledge of the team and the business events industry, having worked in Marketing and Conference Promotion, before expanding into Convention Services and leading the Business Development and Bidding Teams, and the team as General Manager. Juliet has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Business (Management) from The University of Queensland.

Ben Cleary, Bidding Manager

In his capacity as Bidding Manager, Ben leads a small team of bidding executives who are focused on developing high value competitive bid wins for major national and international conventions for Brisbane. Ben has a strong professional background spanning across management consulting, project management, business development and international trade. Ben has also gained significant experience in owning and operating various small businesses. Ben holds a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Wollongong and a Masters of Business (International Business) from The University of Queensland.

Jill Wimberley, Bidding Executive

Jill Wimberley joined the Business Events team in 2012 as Membership Coordinator, before transitioning in the Business Development and Bidding team in September 2015. Jill specialises in project managing the bid process to secure conferences and incentives for Brisbane. She works with association and corporate clients, in partnership with industry and members, to showcase Brisbane’s strengths and world-class event infrastructure. This is facilitated through preparing bid proposals, presentations, hosting site inspections, lobbying and influencing decision makers.

Kylie McKenzie, Business Development Manager

Kylie joined the team in 2008 as the Research Executive.  She has extensive experience in hotels, catering and event management both in Australia and overseas. Teaming her experience and passion for Brisbane, Kylie is now focused on Business Development for the Business Events team. She is uniquely placed to assist clients in finding the most suitable options in Brisbane to facilitate successful Business Events.

Gary Pearce, Business Development Manager

Gary joined the team in September 2015 as Business Development Manager. Gary is tasked with ensuring Brisbane is front of mind when considering locations for any future conferences and events. He joins the team with extensive hotel sales background over the past 15 years, working in both Australian and international hotels and resorts.

Jessica O'Gorman, Business Development Manager

Jessica joined the team in 2017 as Business Development Manager. She has worked in the events industry for more than 13 years in both operational and sales roles around the world. Jessica has extensive experience in the business events sector, having worked at the RNA in Brisbane and the Convention Bureau and Convention Centre in Cairns. Jessica loves working in the business events industry because no two days are the same.

Tamara Bogdan, Business Development Coordinator

Tamara joined the Bureau in 2017 as a Business Development Coordinator. She has extensive experience within hotels and resorts both in Australia and overseas working for Disney World Resorts in Florida. Teaming her experience and passion for Brisbane, Tamara is now focused on Business Development for the Business Events team and generating new leads while supporting the team. 

Stephanie Heyneke, Business Development and Bidding Coordinator

Stephanie joined the team in 2017, taking on the role of Business Development and Bidding Coordinator. Along with her work in conference bidding, Stephanie supports the business development team on key projects, including the Lord Mayor’s Convention Trailblazer Grant. Stephanie’s background is in communications and events in the political and non-profit space and she is currently completing her post-graduate study in marketing

Lorelle Chittick, Senior Manager, Business Events

Lorelle joined in team in 2005 as Manager Familiarisations and Events and in 2015 started in the role of Convention Services Manager. Lorelle leads the Membership and Familarisation and Events team and is responsible for the delivery of a broad range of projects including site inspections, familiarisations, trade events and membership. Lorelle has a strong conventions, tourism and events background having worked across a diverse range of companies in the UK, Canada and Australia.

Patricia Cuppaidge, Membership Manager, Business Events

The longest-serving member of the team, Patricia Cuppaidge is responsible for Membership for the Business Events team. Her focus is on retaining current, and attracting new members, as well as selling the team’s cooperative marketing campaigns. Patricia’s numerous years of experience in the retail industry and 20 years in various roles at Brisbane Marketing have enabled her to establish and maintain relationships with members to maximise their membership benefits.

Courtenay Brown, Project Executive, Business Events

Courtenay joined the team as Membership and Events Executive in July 2017 and since that time has progressed to the role of Project Executive, Business Events. Courtenay is responsible for leading the operational logistics and project management of the Business Events team's participation in trade activity for international tradeshows, events and conferences. Courtenay is tasked with managing the team’s client programs, including site inspections and familiarisations and assisting in the direct sales effort by actioning reactive business leads and opportunities for Brisbane Marketing members.

Kylie Fox, Client Services Manager, Business Events

Kylie joined the team in 2012 as Convention Promotion Manager. Working with confirmed national and international conference clients, she advises on delegate attraction marketing strategies, destination promotion and uptake of the Convention Support Toolkit offerings to ensure a successful conference experience in Brisbane for both the organiser and delegate. Kylie has extensive marketing experience having worked for major corporate brands in the ICT, events and gaming industry.
