Brisbane’s growing profile as an incentive destination has received a boost with international nutrition company Herbalife choosing the city to host its Asia Pacific contingent of high-performance members.

In a Queensland first, more than 1500 of Herbalife’s top members across the Asia Pacific region will meet in Brisbane for the Future President’s Team Retreat from 16-20 September.

The retreat will see Herbalife’s higher-level members attend a series of leadership training meetings and enjoy a range of lifestyle and leisure experiences in Brisbane and its surrounds.

The Brisbane Business Events team worked closely with the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and Tourism Events Queensland to secure Herbalife, which sells nutrition products in more than 90 countries with net sales of $5.9 billion.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the retreat represented an estimated $3.9 million in economic impact and reinforced Brisbane’s growing profile as a major business event and incentive destination in the Asia Pacific.

“I’m delighted Herbalife has chosen Brisbane as the ideal location to train, motivate and reward the ‘best of the best’ among its Asian Pacific network,” Cr Quirk said.

“This follows the announcement that Brisbane will this year host Tourism Australia’s global incentive showcase ‘Dreamtime’, proving Australia’s New World City is primed to capture a greater share of the global business events and incentives market.”

Brisbane Business Events General Manager Rob Nelson said the city was building awareness as an incentive destination.

“Herbalife’s top members will experience the best that our welcoming and vibrant city has to offer, from a convention centre voted ‘best in the world’ to unique attractions and entertainment offering that quintessential Australian experience,” Mr Nelson said.

Brisbane to host Dreamtime 2017

The Herbalife announcement came just weeks after Tourism Australia revealed it had selected Brisbane as the host city of Dreamtime – its signature event promoting Australia as an incentive destination.

Brisbane will host the biennial showcase for the first time ever from 3-6 December.

As part of the Dreamtime program, Australian industry will have the opportunity to meet and do business with qualified buyers from key markets including Greater China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, New Zealand, the US and UK during business sessions – helping to secure future incentive business for Australia.

Cr Quirk said he was delighted Tourism Australia had decided to bring Dreamtime to Brisbane for the first time this year.

“Hosting Dreamtime again demonstrates our New World City’s ability to attract key business events,” he said.

“Dreamtime gives us the opportunity to showcase our vibrant hotels, venues, team-building offerings and leisure experiences to key global incentive decision-makers, who are responsible for bringing in large groups that support our tourism industry and broader visitor economy.”

According to a Tourism Australia, a survey of Dreamtime 2015 participants revealed the event had so far generated over 60 incentive business leads worth $40 million.
