Ashley Ng Brisbane Marketing

As Brisbane Marketing’s Senior Manager Market Development – Asia, Ashley Ng, is at the forefront of growing Brisbane’s share of Asian MICE visitors.

My role at Brisbane Marketing involves:  Leading business development activities in Asia for Brisbane Marketing for both business events and tourism.  This encompasses attending trade shows and missions to promote Brisbane as an incentive and leisure tourism destination, working with trade internationally and locally to promote Brisbane’s incentive and tourism offerings, and generating Asian incentive leads for the Business Events team. I also work with Brisbane suppliers to enhance their Asian market readiness.

What I enjoy most about my job is: Making an impact for Brisbane’s tourism and business events sector by bringing more Asian business and leisure travellers to the city and helping our local industry in accessing the large and lucrative Asian market.

Asia is an important market for Brisbane because: Asia as a region exerts enormous influence globally and in Australia, and some of the top source countries for business travellers, tourists and international students for Brisbane are Asian countries.  Brisbane’s economy can benefit significantly from business events and tourism, generating jobs as well as leading to investment and growth in communities throughout Brisbane.  It’s important for Brisbane to capture the opportunities this market offers and grow our market share.

When I’m hosting business events clients from Asia, I make sure to show them: Our vibrant city offerings, as well as our beautiful outdoor lifestyle. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Mirimar Cruises, QAGOMA, Story Bridge Adventure Climb, Riverlife, walking tours and bike tours, the list goes on and on.  In addition, I always showcase our world class meeting and events venues, such as BCEC, Howard Smith Wharves, and our hotels to business events clients.

What excites me most about the business events scene in Brisbane is: Brisbane is growing in appeal as a business events and tourism destination for Asian clients.  Our many new hotels and infrastructure development projects have raised our profile internationally, and our range of tourism and incentive offerings continue to grow.  I feel excited to be in a position to assist our industry in attracting more Asian MICE visitors to Brisbane.

My favourite restaurant in Brisbane is: This is a difficult question as I live in Sunnybank so there are so many Asian restaurants to choose from! I’d have to break it down to different cuisine (Vietnamese, Japanese, Sichuan, Cantonese, hotpot, etc.) to choose a favourite in each one.

When I’m not at work I enjoy:  Reading, yoga, spending time with family and friends, and of course, travelling internationally and domestically to check out Brisbane’s competitors!
