Lord Mayor's Welcome Message

Lord Mayor's Welcomes Message

Business thrives in Brisbane. We are a city of entrepreneurs, thought leaders, capability builders and problem solvers. The ingenuity of our new world city’s businesses is what gives Brisbane an edge over other major Australian cities.

That’s why I’m delighted to open the 2018 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards.

Now in their 13th year, the awards recognise the outstanding contribution businesses and businesspeople make to grow our city’s $154 billion economy and enrich our communities.

Whether your small business is offering an unrivalled service, you have launched an industry-disrupting product, or you are an individual demonstrating leadership and innovation in your field, I encourage you to nominate.

We’ve seen past award winners go on to achieve huge success.

Two-time award winner Tritium, now a major player in the production of electric car chargers, is boosting its 150-strong local workforce to meet growing worldwide demand and recently opened a European headquarters.

Our 2017 Business Person of the Year, podiatrist and physiotherapist Caroline McCullough, has seen new opportunities open up following the recognition she has received for her footwear business FRANKiE4.

Nominating yourself or your business not only puts you in the running to be named a 2018 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards winner, but also provides an opportunity to reflect on, and celebrate, your achievements.

The awards have evolved over the years to acknowledge the role of Brisbane’s businesses and the industries they operate in. In 2017, we saw a record number of nominations across the 11 categories.

Last year’s sell-out gala awards dinner also saw a record level of attendance, so I encourage you to book your tickets to be at City Hall on Friday, 19 October for all of the exciting award announcements, networking and entertainment.

I wish all nominees the best of luck.

Graham Quirk
