Lord Mayor's Welcome Message

Lord Mayor's Welcomes MessageWelcome to the 2017 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards.

Now in their 12th year the awards have become a touchstone for the excellence, success and innovative approach that are the hallmarks of Brisbane’s business community.

Past winners and finalists exemplify what it is that makes Brisbane Australia’s new world city; one that increasingly attracts international decision-makers for business, investment, study and major events.

Their achievements and contributions have been absolutely integral to the continued growth of our $146 billion economy. Part of what gives Brisbane the edge over other major Australian cities is the bold, entrepreneurial attitude of our business men and women; as well as their willingness to work closely with government and community.

These awards are one way in which we can thank and celebrate them for helping to turn Brisbane into an economic powerhouse of the Asia Pacific.

I am especially proud of how the awards have evolved over the years. In 2017, for example, we introduce a new category for small business which recognises the absolutely key role they play in sustaining industries, supplying larger projects and providing employment for more than 40 per cent of all private sector workers in Queensland.

We now also have two innovation awards - an acknowledgement of how essential that ingredient is not just to the success of a business but also to a city.

I encourage you to nominate yourself or your business for the 2017 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards. Simply nominating is an opportunity to celebrate your achievements as well as showcase your business and the services you provide.

Tickets for the gala awards dinner at City Hall on Friday 27 October will be on sale to the public and guarantee a memorable night of entertainment and networking.

I hope you will join me there and I wish all nominees the best of luck.
