A new data centre designed to service the rapidly growing local digital economy has won the Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd Award for Investment in Brisbane in the 2017 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards.

Australia’s leading independent data centre operator NEXTDC launched its NEXTDC B2 Data Centre in September this year.

NEXTDC is an ASX200-listed technology company enabling business transformation through innovative data centre outsourcing solutions, connectivity services and infrastructure management software.

It’s the company’s second Brisbane data centre and will operate from NEXTDC’s Brisbane head office in Fortitude Valley.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the initiative would provide essential infrastructure as Brisbane businesses look to compete globally and increasingly take the leap into the digital economy.

As Australia’s first data centre with full Uptime Institute Tier IV Certification for fault tolerance, B2 represents a new level of service resilience for its customers, and the innovation and technical excellence that is driving NEXTDC’s success.

B2 features a robust power distribution system designed in-house, and clever separation of power and water utilities. As secure hubs for access to IT services and telecommunications networks, data centres are supporting more and more of society’s critical functions,

The Lord Mayor’s Business Awards are now in their 12th year and continue to attract record numbers of entries from a vast range of sectors and industries.

Cr Quirk congratulated all winners of the 2017 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards, who were announced at a gala dinner at Brisbane’s City Hall on Friday 27 October.

“Our award winners demonstrate the depth of talent, enterprising optimism and innovative mindset of our business community, who play a vital role in Brisbane’s success at a local and global level,” he said.
