Brisbane scores major Asia marketing awards

City economic development board Brisbane Marketing has won a major Asia marketing award.

The organisation took out the Destination Category for its innovative marketing campaigns at Routes Asia 2019 - the leading aviation route development forum for Asia.

The win marked a trifecta for the city with Brisbane Airport being named the Overall Winner for its achievements in route development marketing while also taking out the 20+ million passenger category.

The Routes Asia 2019 Marketing Awards, held in Cebu, Philippines, recognised the marketing work of airports and tourism authorities to support airlines in launching new aviation routes or growing existing ones.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk congratulated Brisbane Marketing and Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) for their cooperative work in growing air services and marketing these routes to ensure more visitors converged on Brisbane.

“The work by Brisbane Marketing and BAC is a classic Team Brisbane approach to growing air routes and doing the marketing work to ensure that people are on these flights and visiting our city,” Cr Quirk said.

“International visitors are a vital part of our economy, with the number of international visitors climbing to a record 1.4 million over the year to September 2018 and their spending reaching an all-time high of $2.7 billion.

“It is clear that a city-wide alliance of partners with a singular focus, including the support of Tourism Australia and Tourism and Events Queensland, is having an impact on filling our hotel rooms, supporting small business and building a strong economy with more jobs across our accommodation, hospitality, service and retail sectors.

“Brisbane Marketing and BAC have ensured that the focus on growing international aviation markets continues strongly after recently entering into a three-year partnership to drive preference for Brisbane as a leisure, education and business destination.”

Brisbane Marketing beat other finalists including Beijing, Chengdu, Gold Coast and Vietnam to take out the destination award.
