This month is a celebration of all things cinema, with the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) presented by Treasury Casino & Hotel announcing its full list of nominees and Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival (BAPFF) launching its program.

Now in its third year, BAPFF unveiled its full line-up of 82 films, which screen from 23 November to 4 December.

Among them are celebrated Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s new drama The Salesman, a documentary about the world’s best restaurant Ants on a Shrimp, an eight-hour Filipino epic A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery, and the Australian premiere of low-budget Aussie serial-killer thriller Hounds of Love, slated to be the next Wolf Creek.

Indian drama Parched will open the festival – an inspiring tale of female empowerment, it has won 18 international awards and toured 24 film festivals.

APSA BAPFF Chairman Michael Hawkins said audiences would be wowed by the sheer diversity of films.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Brisbane to see the breadth of cinema on offer in our region and enjoy 31 of the 39 films nominated for this year’s 10th Asia Pacific Screen Awards,” he said.

APSA recently announced the full list of 39 nominated films, including categories for Best Feature, Best Screenplay and Achievement in Directing.

The awards are the region’s highest accolade in film and recognise cinematic excellence of the world’s fastest-growing film region: comprising 70 countries and areas, 4.5 billion people, and half of the world’s film output.

In 2016, 19 Asia Pacific countries have been recognised.

Winners in the 10th anniversary of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards will be announced on 24 November in Brisbane, Australia, and via a live webcast to the globe.

The APSA ceremony, a glamorous black tie event, will be attended by a record number of 1000 guests, including the 2016 APSA nominees and jurors and 500 international guests.
