New Seafood Festival to make a splash in Brisbane's CBD
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk today launched Sea to the City, a new seafood event that will take over Eagle Street’s dining precinct on 7 October.
Sea to the City has united 15 restaurants to create a trail of special menus, market stalls, live music and pop-up bars from Eagle Street Pier to Customs House.
The seafood trail will be free to attend and celebrates two favourites – oysters and Moreton Bay bugs.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said he was thrilled to bring a new event to the city.
“Sea to the City will see Brisbane residents tasting their way through a trail of the region’s fresh seafood under our famous sunshine and against the backdrop of the beautiful river,” Cr Quirk said.
“This is a fantastic event for Brisbane because it builds on our reputation as a food destination and contributes to the city’s long term goal of activating Brisbane’s most iconic feature.
“I’m delighted to grow the city’s calendar of free events and add another jewel to the CBD’s transformation, including the recently completed Brisbane Quarter and the Howard Smith Wharves and Queens Wharf developments.
“I encourage you to mark it down in the calendar and join the seafood extravaganza.”
Restauranteur John Kilroy (Jellyfish, Cha Cha Char, Il Centro) said the whole precinct had fully embraced the event.
“We’re absolutely pumped to welcome seafood lovers and wow them with some truly inspired seafood dishes.
“Brisbane has some of Australia’s most exciting chefs and the event gives us the chance to take them out from the kitchen and into sunny Eagle Street.
“Whether you’re looking to throw back $1 oysters and cold champagne, or gorge yourself on bacon-wrapped sweet ‘n’ sour bug, we’re promising an unforgettable festival-style experience.”
Sea to the City is part of a free calendar of events produced by Brisbane City Council through Brisbane Marketing. For more information, visit http://www.visitbrisbane.com.au/the-city/sea-to-the-city
