Furniture giant finds super new home in Brisbane

The first sod has been turned at Super Amart's brand new facility at one of Brisbane's premier industrial estates; a development set to create 40 new jobs and bring $105 million worth of economic impact to the city.

The leading furniture, bedding and outdoor retailer has signed a 15-year lease on a purpose-built 42,000sqm office/warehouse at Goodman's Rochedale Motorway Estate on Brisbane's southside.

Investment Attraction General Manager Steven Silvester welcomed the move following lengthy and productive negotiations with Goodman to bring Super Amart into the estate.

"Super Amart has made one of the largest industrial pre-commitments in Brisbane we have seen in the past two years and I am proud of the role Invest Brisbane played in securing such an outcome," Mr Silvester said.

"There is strong demand for quality warehouse facilities, and Super Amart's choice simply confirms that if you build it they will come.

"It strengthens Brisbane's growing connection with the ASX-listed Goodman Group, which is an Australian leader in the provision of industrial and business space."

The Super Amart distribution facility will be built along with another 21,000sqm facility within stage one of the Rochedale Motorway Estate, a joint venture between Goodman and Brickworks.

"The new facility consolidates Super Amart's operations from four outdated warehouses, features a new National Support Centre and will usher in a modernised warehouse operation for the company," Mr Silvester said.

"A further 8000sqm of expansion land has been included and the building is expected to be completed in January 2017.

"As well as creating 40 new jobs, the new site will support 220 existing jobs from Super Amart's older warehouses into a single large industrial warehouse facility with up to 55,000sqm of floor area."

Mr Silvester said Super Amart would be joined at the site by Japanese food distributor JFC Australia, which has committed to a 5500sqm unit on a 12-year lease term, and Beaumont Tiles which relocated its 13,500sqm local head office and distribution facility to the estate earlier this year.

"The Rochedale Motorway Estate is Brisbane's newest industrial precinct on the Gateway Motorway and is conveniently placed for easy access to the CBD, the airport and the Port of Brisbane," he said.

"Sites like this go a long way towards attracting business investment to Brisbane. Goodman are also behind the Lytton Motorway Estate, and Invest Brisbane previously worked with them to get a commitment from Silk Contract Logistics, one of Australia's biggest warehousing and transport operations, to take up a 19,910sqm facility there for its Queensland distribution requirements."

"Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Marketing worked with Goodman to ensure planning approvals were received promptly so the construction on both facilities could proceed smoothly and enable the group to further invest in South East Queensland."

Brisbane Marketing's corporate partner Ray White also played a key role in realisation of the new facility, having represented Super Amart's brief to the market and introduced Goodman to this industrial opportunity.
