Kingsford Smith Drive
The Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade is another major council project that will reduce traffic congestion and improve safety in that corridor for all road users, including cyclists and pedestrians. Kingsford Smith Drive is a major road linking Brisbane CBD to the Brisbane Airport, Port of Brisbane, Northshore Hamilton, and the Australia TradeCoast area. The road is also classified as a primary freight route, and demand for transportation of freight on Kingsford Smith Drive is expected to grow rapidly. Construction of stage one of the project, which widened part of Kingsford Smith Drive from four to six lanes, was completed in mid-2011.
The community’s preferred option for the remainder of the project involves widening Kingsford Smith Drive to six lanes between Theodore Street and Breakfast Creek Road, and constructing out into the Brisbane River between Riverview Terrace and Breakfast Creek Road. Planning will continue throughout 2014.
