Brisbane 2032 set to shine

The countdown to the Brisbane 2032 Games is on.

Brisbane is preparing to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with iconic Olympic cities – Los Angeles, Paris and London - following the recent announcement that Brisbane has successfully secured the world’s largest and most spectacular sporting event, the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympics Games.

Brisbane is ready to shine as a vibrant modern city on the world stage.

With a tidal wave of new infrastructure over recent years, and 20 new luxurious hotels recently opening, including W Brisbane, Crystalbrook Vincent, The Calile Hotel and Emporium South Bank, providing more than 5,000 new rooms and additional meeting and event facilities, Brisbane is ready to shine under the world’s spotlight.

The lifestyle precincts of South Bank, Howard Smith Wharves, Eagle Street Pier, Fish Lane and James Street in Fortitude Valley have developed indulgent dining precincts that have positioned Brisbane as an epicurean epicentre, while QPAC, QAGOMA and the Brisbane Powerhouse have delivered world-class cultural events, international exhibitions and breathtaking live performances. And fashionistas aren’t forgotten in Brisbane, with its abundance of retail precincts including Queen Street Mall and James Street.

Tourists to Brisbane during the Olympics will be welcomed with open arms. There are myriad tourism drawcards, including inner-city adrenaline activities, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander art and cultural experiences, and mountain and water-based activities on offer, all extending the visitor spend throughout the wider Brisbane region.

And move over other capital cities – Brisbane has staked its claim as Australia’s sporting and major events capital having hosted the 2020 AFL Grand Final, NRL Magic Round, World Science Festival Brisbane, rugby union internationals, as well as the PGA Golf Championship later this year, all bringing in visitors, increasing the tourist dollar for local businesses, and generating flow-on economic activity for the city.

The city predicts an employment boom across the region by the time the Brisbane 2032 Games action begins. Major industries, including construction, health care, and food and beverage manufacturing are expected to increase significantly, with the boom flowing through to emerging sectors including METS (mining, equipment, technology and services) and property technology as the Olympic spotlight shines on Brisbane’s business opportunities.

With a $15 billion infrastructure pipeline, major infrastructure projects including Brisbane Airport’s new parallel runway, the international cruise terminal, Queen’s Wharf, Brisbane Metro, Cross River Rail, new international aviation routes, and the Victoria Park redevelopment not only provide additional jobs, but will feature heavily as Brisbane showcases to the world just how ready it is to become an Olympic city.

Brisbane Economic Development Agency (Brisbane EDA), the economic arm of Brisbane City Council, has a remit to attract major events, business and tourists to the region, delivering employment and economic stimulus to what will soon become one of the most famous cities in the world.

Brisbane EDA says the city’s thriving economy is expected to grow from $182 billion to $217 billion over the next decade as the Olympics buzz reaches fever pitch.

Positioning the Queensland capital as a thriving sustainable multicultural city, with an innovation-led economy and an enviable outdoor lifestyle, as well as a global hub in scientific innovation, mining and resources, technology, education and cultural attractions, makes Brisbane a natural home for domestic and international business opportunities.

Lifestyle is also key attribute. Known as one of the world’s most liveable cities, Brisbane’s year-round blue skies, sub-tropical climate, a thriving multi-cultural scene, and proximity to some of the State’s most beautiful natural landscapes, from the mountains to the Bay, draws interstate migration to the wider region.

Brisbane is ready for 2032. It’s a city that continues to evolve, is the perfect business and leisure destination, has abundant opportunities for economic growth, has an ideal climate for investment, and is ready and waiting to shine under the world’s biggest spotlight.
