Brisbane’s newest luxury hotels
Brisbane’s skyline is sitting pretty with a wave of new luxury and international hotel brands claiming their share of Queensland’s thriving subtropical capital.
Since 2018 alone five new 5-star hotels have opened their doors, with the new Queen’s Wharf development opening in late 2022 set to offer Brisbane’s first 6-star hotel.
Check out these new luxury hotels offering groups even more choice for memorable and inspiring stays in Brisbane.
The only W Hotel in Australia, the 5-star hotel lands on the opening page of the city’s new chapter in luxury hotel offerings. Taking design cues from Aussie flora and fauna, Queensland classics and the Brisbane River, the super trendy 312-room hotel is a playful nod to the city’s ‘Brisvegas’ nickname and laid-back vibe.
The lifestyle-focused hotel sports not one, but two bars and a heated saltwater pool on the fourth-floor rooftop. Kick back with a cocktail in a sun lounger and soak in the amazing riverside views, or sit in the dark and moody ‘Living Room’ to sip local, boutique spirits and Queensland beer. The much-loved culinary crew behind Three Blues Ducks serves vibrant, seasonal, paddock-to-plate dining from morning until late at the signature restaurant.
Featuring approximately 1,100 sqm of event space and meeting rooms with fully adaptable conference equipment and world-class AV, W Brisbane sets the stage for electric and unmistakeable events. The hotel is conveniently located in the city centre at one end of Brisbane’s premier shopping street, Queen Street Mall, and it’s an easy stroll over the river to South Bank’s cultural precinct. Guests will love the 24-hour in-room dining.
This Art Series hotel is conveniently located under the Story Bridge within the buzzing Howard Smith Wharves precinct and boasts 166 modern and luxurious hotel suites overlooking the Brisbane River. Taking inspiration from acclaimed Australian painter Vincent Fantauzzo, the hotel features custom contemporary furnishings, three original artworks and 500 prints of Fantauzzo's most recognised works throughout the space.
The hotel has three natural light-filled conference spaces with unrivalled views of the Brisbane River, outdoor private balcony/breakout areas and a stunning rooftop bar complete with a spectacular infinity pool. When stomachs start to rumble, simply step outside to explore the waterfront restaurants including Greca, Felons Brewing Co, Mr Percivals & Stanley.
This award-winning urban resort sits in the heart of Brisbane's leafy shopping strip, James Street. Combining state of the art event spaces with resort facilities, The Calile proves that business can, and should mix with pleasure. The hotel offers a grand ballroom, which can be divided into four smaller rooms to suit your event plus two private rooms for more intimate events and dinners. The multi-functional spaces cater to small meetings to conventions for up to 500 people.
Committed to ‘delighting and surprising’ guests, Australia's most awarded boutique luxury hotel, Emporium South Bank, offers 143 luxuriously appointed suites featuring all the comforts you could ask for and several exquisitely designed, bespoke events spaces. An abundance of premium food and beverage options will leave you spoilt for choice, including a rooftop pool bar with magnificent views over South Bank Parklands, the Brisbane River, to the city and beyond.
Located near central train station and a short walk from the city, the boutique Ovolo brand has made its lively mark on the Art Deco hotel rooms and restaurant. A highlight for history lovers sits in the centre of the 1930s-built former private residence and medical practice. The original lift was shipped here from New York State in 1928 by the Otis Elevator Company, and has been restored with a new motor.
Of course, the new signature restaurant plays up the building’s past too. Executive chef Anthony Hales spent three months travelling around Australia and popped over to Korea to soak in the culinary scenes and use it as inspiration at the super chic Salon De Co.
Inspired by New York’s Flatiron building, this new hotel in Brisbane’s late-night hotspot Fortitude Valley appropriately takes its design cues from the city that never sleeps. With 90 apartments – one and two bedrooms – it’s the ultimate spot to soak in the nightlife each evening and splash around with a cocktail from the skyline U-shaped pool each day after attending your business event. There’s a moonlight cinema, yoga studio, a proper gym with all the equipment you need and three private VIP spa suites (complete with a spa, bar, speakers and TV) that guests can book. You’ll find a restaurant with a tropical vibe, and an independent wine bar and store on the ground floor. Stopping into Valley Wine Bar for a takeaway bottle or sit-in cheese board is definitely essential.
Sip on an aperitif with sweeping city views at The Westin Brisbane's swim-up bar. The 5-star inner-city oasis is your health and wellbeing stop-over, with a two-floor wellness centre and resort-style facilities. The hotel is in walking distance of the Queen Street Mall, Eagle Street Pier, South Bank and the Botanic Gardens.
The property features more than 10,000 square feet of dynamic event venues, from boardrooms to ballrooms. Seat up to 450 meeting attendees in the stunning Westin Ballroom, the hotel’s largest indoor event space, or plan a welcome reception or post-event cocktail function on the inviting pool deck overlooking Brisbane.
The Westin’s event venues feature natural light and state-of-the-art audio-visual technology. The hotel’s meeting specialists plus an on-site business centre will ensure the hosting of a successful gathering. Additionally, the on-site culinary team can cater a Brisbane event with ease - from coffee breaks to receptions.
Opening December 2020
Hotel Indigo channels the local culture, design and history of Fortitude Valley, Brisbane’s edgy entertainment and arts district. The 146-boutique room hotel will include complimentary WiFi, a 24/7 fitness centre, rooftop lap pool and bar plus a ground-floor café, bar and restaurant hosting a valley-to-plate philosophy. The hotel has meeting rooms that can cater for intimate and larger gatherings with the rooftop pool area also available for an event.
Brisbane’s transformation is going to go to another level in 2022. The Queens Wharf development is bringing not one, but five, new premium hotel brands to Brisbane. Expect to see new hotels from the likes of the Ritz Carlton, Rosewood, Dorsett and the Star Entertainment Group, with Brisbane’s first six-star hotel also part of the development. Encompassing 12 football fields’ worth of public space, the project will provide the city with 1,000 new hotel rooms, 50 new restaurants, cafes and bars, a 1,000-seat ballroom and a landmark 100m-high sky deck.
