Meet the team: Jill Wimberley - Choose Brisbane

Meet the team: Jill Wimberley

Jill Wimberley joined the Brisbane Business Events in 2012 as Membership Coordinator, before transitioning in the Business Development and Bidding team in September 2015. Jill specialises in managing the bid process for clients to secure association and corporate conferences for Brisbane. She works with clients, industry and members to prepare conference and incentive bids, influence decision-makers and host city site inspections.

My role within Brisbane Economic Development Agency involves:
Preparing bids and managing the bidding process to secure national and international conferences for Brisbane. I work with association and corporate clients, in partnership with industry and members, to showcase Brisbane’s strengths and world-class convention and event infrastructure. This is facilitated through preparing bid proposals, presentations, hosting site inspections, lobbying and influencing decision makers.

The most enjoyable aspect of my role is:
Showcasing our city to interstate and international visitors – sharing my passion for Brisbane with those who may not have ever been to Brisbane, or even those that think they are quite familiar with it.

To be successful in the bidding field you must be able to...
Understand your client’s strategic goals both in relation to their conference and their broader organisational goals, and how the city can support and deliver a world-class event that helps their organisation be even more successful.

What excites me most about the business events scene in Brisbane is:
The sheer amount of new product that is coming online in 2018 – new hotels plus Howard Smith Wharves keeps Brisbane offering something new and fresh.

One place I like to visit when I am in Brisbane is:
The Scenic Rim – in less than 30 minutes from the city you can be in the middle of the rainforest or in rolling countryside.

My favourite time of year in Brisbane is:
Early winter when the mornings are cool but the afternoons are warm and perfectly sunny.

When I’m not at work you’ll find me:
Catching some live music or trying out one of Brisbane’s neighbourhood coffee haunts - there is always somewhere new!

One country I would like to visit but have never been to is:
Norway to see the fjords.
