Brisbane 2032 - Choose Brisbane

Brisbane 2032

Wilsons Outlook

Looking beyond 2020, it has been confirmed that Brisbane will make a formal bid for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The bid comes on the back of a feasibility study commissioned by the South East Queensland Council of Mayors in 2016, which found that the region is capable of hosting the event.

Steven Silvester says that Brisbane, already in the midst of an infrastructure boom, could only stand to benefit from the increased exposure that comes with a high-profile Olympics bid.

“The momentum that bid can generate, in and of itself, is really important,” Silvester says. “My fingers are crossed that Brisbane gets it. I think it’ll be great for the city — it’ll bring forward a heap of infrastructure spending, but it’s also about that global recognition. Investors are already starting to say, ‘Is there an Olympics bid? Are you going to be successful?’ It’s encouraging people to think about Brisbane a little bit more, and have Brisbane in their consideration set, and that’s actually a really positive thing.

“I think we’d be a really great destination to host the Olympics. It’s a really exciting time for Brisbane, and we’re really looking forward to 2020 being an amazing year.”
