Goodbye 2019 Brisbane International Student Ambassadors, and Thank You

Our 2019 Brisbane International Student Ambassadors recently put an end to an amazing year of sharing their studies and promoting Brisbane to the world. In their term, they attended tourism activities, events, workshops, embraced network opportunities, went on road trips, served up brilliant ideas to improve the experiences of international students in Brisbane, practised their skills, and forged lifelong friendships with each other.

Goodbye 2019 student ambassadors

We asked our 2019 student ambassadors what the most memorable part of their experience was, and what they gained from the program. Let's see what they have to say:

Temmy (Nigeria): I've gained lifelong friends. I also now know there are more ways I can help international students in Australia, and there are more platforms that have been set up for them.

Ameya (India): I found the confidence to present myself as a proud international student and a person of colour in the international community of students and a professional workspace. Culturally-relevant and volunteering events added a lot of value in experiencing the heritage of Brisbane.

Bruno (Brazil): I loved networking with people from different cultures. I was exposed to the QUT business school faculty leadership because of the ambassador position. I also practised my writing skills.

Rico (Hong Kong): Networking skills and opportunities, which allowed me to forge a path of staying in Australia after I graduated. It helped give me skills to communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds, which has always been a lifelong skill. It also taught me to be humble and genuine and passionate about learning and exploring.

Vivian (Vietnam): Becoming a Brisbane International Student Ambassador was an excellent opportunity for me to not only apply what I gained in the classroom but also to network with other ambassadors from other nations around the world, expanding my horizons. This experience allowed me to network professionally with those working in my respective fields of study while also learning and improving communication and collaboration, two essential skills that I greatly value.

Jimena (Colombia): I became passionate about inspiring other people to achieve their dreams, like coming to study in another country and making Brisbane their second home.

Rachel (Malaysia): An appreciation of Brisbane as a whole, from the culture and people to the food and weather! Besides, I gained friends for a lifetime, understanding and learning not only the Australian culture but from the various countries of my fellow ambassadors. I've also developed communication and interpersonal skills, confidence and improved my networking abilities. I believe the Ambassador program is a great incentive to connect students from all over the world and hold Brisbane as their second home. Not only for the international students who are part of it but also to other students (local or international) because Brisbane has so much to offer. From social events, visiting must-go destinations, festivals to networking opportunities, volunteering, industry/career fairs and many more. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and the experience I've gained throughout my journey as an Ambassador.

Yanyan (China): As a student ambassador, I have gained a great deal of personal and professional experiences. From improved communication skills to self-confidence, from better time management ability to networking skills, from better intercultural understandings to problem-solving skills, this program has created changes in me. Although I am a person who is a bit quiet and introverted, being an Ambassador allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and to embrace the greatest potentials of myself. I'm extremely grateful for being able to get involved in this program. By participating in a range of fun and meaningful events, I found a better self. I follow the belief that, as our life is happening right now, you need to live as hard as you can. The BISA program gave me this opportunity, and this program definitely made my life in Brisbane remarkable!

Yonas (Singapore): I learnt just to get out there and make things that I've been meaning to make, then put it out there for all to see. I've also become a bit more shameless in approaching people or strangers, getting to know them and experiencing things. Brisbane's an incredible place with diverse people and rich stories that have yet to be told.

It's also worth taking a moment to look back at the highlights of their year:
