Brisbane universities globally recognised
International students currently studying at Brisbane-based universities will no doubt be happy to learn several of them have jumped up the rankings in the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities.
It means their study institution is regarded more highly than last year, and offers more assurance that the education they’re receiving, in our fabulous city of Brisbane, is truly world-class.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities revealed The University of Queensland to be the highest-performing Brisbane-based university in the past year, jumping from 85th spot to 77. It is UQ’s best result since the annual ranking began in 2003.
Queensland University of Technology made the list for the first time and Griffith University made its fifth consecutive appearance in the rankings.
The rankings were based on a number of factors, including:
- Number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields medals
- Number of highly cited researchers selected by Thomson Scientific
- Number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science
- Number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index – Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index
- Per capita performance with respect to the size of an institution.

An international education is of course, about much more than just academic performance. Where else in the world can you cuddle a koala, pat a kangaroo, hand-feed wild dolphins and witness humpback whales migrating through the waters of Moreton Bay?
Brisbane offers world-class education with an unsurpassed lifestyle and a range of cultural attractions. It is a safe and friendly city with a fantastic climate and a generous community spirit.
Tens of thousands of international students already know this, because they’ve chosen to study here!
